Non-Relative Adoptions

Non-Relative adoptions face greater scrutiny than family adoptions.  An adoption between parties who all live in Georgia will be more straightforward than one where we must deal with the interstate compact or international law.   For more information about Inter-State adoptions, click here.  For more information about international adoptions, click here.  A non-relative adoption will typically require a home study to ensure the safety of the child.  Despite the higher scrutiny, our firm handles a number of non-relative adoptions, and such adoptions typically go through without any real problems.

We have a $2,500.00 retaining fee for adoptions within the state, while inter-state and international adoptions have a retaining fee of $5,000.00.  We bill hourly against this fee at the rate of $250.00 to $395.00 per hour, depending on the experience of the attorney.  (More details would be explained in a legal services agreement, which must be signed for representation to begin.)
